Crafted by a Church of England clergyman during the tumultuous era of Cromwell, this profound work has garnered acclaim for its eloquent style and deep content. Renowned figures such as John Wesley, the founder of Methodism, admired its devotional essence, while literary giants like Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Thomas de Quincey, and Edmund Gosse praised its artistic qualities. Holy Dying serves as a guide for readers on the means and instruments necessary to prepare for a blessed death, written in a time when death was an ever-present reality. It thoughtfully addresses the inevitability of illness and the death-bed, offering meditations and prayers tailored for the sick, their families, and the clergy attending to them.
