Dive into the enchanting world of Black Folk Tales, a captivating collection of 13 Hausa folktales from Nigeria, skillfully retold and illustrated by Erick Berry, the pen name of Evangel Alenna Champlin. In the 1920s, Champlin lived in West Africa, where she met and married Oswald Best, a British Civil Service official. After relocating to the United States, Berry became a celebrated childrens book illustrator and author. This remarkable anthology not only showcases the rich cultural heritage of Africa but is also complemented by her other works, including Girls in Africa and the illustrations for her husbands novel, Garram the Hunter A Boy of the Hill Tribes.
