In this captivating recording, one narrator brings to life the entire play, embodying all characters and stage directions. Even without Arthur Sullivan’s enchanting music and the dynamic performances of actors, the delightful absurdity of Gilbert’s libretto shines through. The Pirates of Penzance; or, The Slave of Duty is a comic opera in two acts that tells the whimsical tale of Frederic, who, upon turning 21, is released from his apprenticeship to a band of tender-hearted pirates. He encounters Mabel, the charming daughter of Major-General Stanley, and they fall deeply in love. However, Frederic soon discovers he was born on February 29, which means he only celebrates his birthday every leap year. According to his apprenticeship agreement, he must serve the pirates until his 21st birthday, which, due to his unique birthdate, translates to an additional 63 years. Despite this, Frederic finds solace in Mabels unwavering promise to wait for him. Pirates continues to captivate audiences
