history, arts, books, society, culture · EN

In this captivating continuation of Cooks journey, we follow his westward expedition to Australia after his groundbreaking circumnavigation of New Zealand. Upon discovering the previously uncharted east coast, Cook first sighted Port Hicks before landing at Botany Bay, where he attempted to engage with the local indigenous people but faced challenges. As he navigated northward, he meticulously mapped around a thousand miles of coastline and stumbled upon the Great Barrier Reef, which led to a perilous encounter that nearly sank his ship. After enduring significant damage, Cook and his crew worked tirelessly for seven weeks to make extensive repairs on the mainland. With resilience, he continued his voyage to Cape York, the northernmost point of Australia, ultimately completing his remarkable circumnavigation of the globe through Batavia (modern Jakarta), the Cape of Good Hope, and St. Helena. - Summary by David Cole This show includes AI-generated content.
