Brother Julian, once a devoted monk seeking closeness to God, finds himself feeling more distant than ever. Estranged from his fellow monks and grappling with his faith, he chooses to abandon his vows and delve back into the complexities of the world and its relationships. This poignant dramatic poem marks MacDonalds first published work. Although it did not achieve commercial success, it offers rich insights for students and admirers of MacDonald, exploring themes and ideas that would resonate throughout his later writings.
