Dive into Concerning Virgins (De Virginibus), a captivating collection of letters penned by St. Ambrose to his sister Manellia around 377 CE. This early work, characterized by its engaging and approachable style, serves as a thoughtful guide for women considering a life in the nunneries. More than just advice, these letters lay the groundwork for Ambroses later explorations of ethics, echoing through the writings of notable figures like St. Jerome, St. Augustine, and Cassian. Now recognized as part of the extra-biblical canon of early church fathers, this series of letters invites readers into a rich historical and spiritual dialogue. (Summary by Gary Gilberd)
