Dive into the captivating World of Sound, a series of six engaging lectures presented to a youthful audience at the Royal Institution during Christmas 1919. These Christmas Lectures, a cherished tradition since 1825, seek to illuminate scientific topics in a way that is both informative and entertaining. Founded by Michael Faraday when education for young minds was limited, this series delves into the fascinating realms of sound and hearing, tracing the history of research in these fields. The final lecture, Sound in War, reflects the eras burgeoning technology in warfare, touching on innovations like acoustic mirrors for aircraft detection. While the invention of ASDIC (the precursor to Sonar) was likely still a secret, this collection remains a valuable resource for understanding the basics of sound.
