Thing in the Woods

fiction, arts, books, performing · EN

In a small, secluded town in Pennsylvania, Dr. Haverill reluctantly steps in as the local physician for the anxious Dr. Lennox. The townsfolk, steeped in superstition, harbor a deep-rooted fear of venturing into the woods after dark‚and for good reason. A series of brutal attacks by what seems to be a monstrous creature has left the community on edge, and as the body count rises, Dr. Haverill begins to suspect that the true menace may be something far more sinister than human. Written by Margery Williams Bianco under the pseudonym Harper Williams, this chilling tale of mystery and horror has garnered acclaim from none other than H. P. Lovecraft, who noted its influence on his own classic, The Dunwich Horror. Readers should be aware that this work reflects its era and includes racially insensitive language in the early chapters.
