Discover the rich tapestry of London‚s past through the eyes of Walter Besant, a novelist and historian renowned for his topographical and historical insights. This captivating single volume, originally intended for young readers, offers a broad yet engaging overview of Londons history from prehistoric times to the 19th century. Though less detailed than his later 10-volume Survey of London, this book, written in 1894, presents a fascinating glimpse into the city‚s evolution and the governance of its people during that era. Each chapter is structured as a Lesson, making it both accessible and enlightening for history enthusiasts of all ages. (Summary by Ruth Golding)
