The Adventures of Sam Spade

society, culture · EN

Step back to 1946-1951 for The Adventures of Sam Spade, the hard-boiled detective drama based loosely on Dashiell Hammett's iconic private eye from The Maltese Falcon. Starring Howard Duff, later joined by Steve Dunne, as the wisecracking San Francisco shamus Sam Spade with Lurene Tuttle as his sharp, long-suffering secretary Effie, the series trades the novel's grim grit for a wry, tongue-in-cheek take on the classic private detective. Each self-contained Caper drops you into a world of missing heiresses, double-crosses and murder, as Spade reports the case to Effie with wit as quick as his fists.
