Lectures on Tropical Diseases

health, fitness, history, science, social · EN

Step back in time to 1905 with Sir Patrick Manson, a pioneering medical adviser to the Colonial Office, as he delivers ten enlightening lectures in San Francisco. This concise volume offers invaluable clinical insights into tropical diseases that remain relevant today. Manson explores the infamous three-foot Guinea worm, detailing its treatment method of gradually winding it around a stick as it emerges from the patients leg. He also addresses filarial elephantiasis, malaria, sleeping sickness, and the debilitating kala-azar, providing essential guidance on diagnosing perplexing tropical fevers. Beyond its medical significance, this work serves as an unintentional reflection on British imperialism, making it a fascinating read for both healthcare professionals and history enthusiasts alike. - Summary by Pamela Nagami, M.D. This show includes AI-generated content.
