Join Joshua Slocum on his incredible journey as the first person to sail solo around the globe in a modest boat. He meticulously rebuilt an 11.2-meter sloop-rigged fishing vessel, aptly named the Spray. On April 24, 1895, he embarked from Boston, Massachusetts, and after more than three years at sea, returned to Newport, Rhode Island, on June 27, 1898, having covered an astonishing 46,000 miles (74,000 km). In 1899, he recounted this remarkable adventure in Sailing Alone Around the World, a timeless piece of travel literature that has captivated readers ever since. Arthur Ransome once famously remarked that boys who do not like this book ought to be drowned at once, underscoring its enduring appeal as a thrilling tale from the Age of Sail.
