On December 14, 1774, a pivotal moment in American history unfolded in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, as local Patriots led by John Langdon launched a daring assault on Fort William and Mary. Overcoming a small six-man detachment, they seized the forts vital gunpowder, distributing it throughout the colony in anticipation of the impending conflict with Great Britain. The following day, Patriots led by John Sullivan returned to the fort, capturing an array of cannons that would later play a crucial role in the iconic Battle of Bunker Hill. This event is not only significant as one of the first direct acts of defiance against British rule but also marks the only battle in the state of New Hampshire during the Revolutionary War. - Summary by Wikipedia
