Life and Death of Doctor Faustus Made into a Farce

comedy, fiction, arts, performing · EN

Originally staged between 1684 and 1688, this unique adaptation of the Faust legend transforms the tale into a delightful comedy. Picture angels mingling with the likes of Mephistopholis, Lucifer, and Beelzebub, alongside the Seven Deadly Sins—and yes, even Scaramouche and Harlequin make an appearance! The playwright, Mountfort, was not only an actor but met a tragic fate while attempting to thwart an actresss kidnapping, a case that ultimately reached the House of Lords.
