Step back into 1912 and explore the transformative stories from the Ole Jerry McAuley Mission, where destitute alcoholics and addicts found hope through a surrender to Christ Jesus. This book offers a revealing look at how the legacy of the esteemed Samuel H. Hadley has reshaped the Missions original purpose—once a sanctuary for chronic alcoholics seeking redemption after incarceration, it now grapples with the pressures of societal expectations and evangelical promotion. Journey through the vibrant early 1900s at the new Ole Jerry McAuley Mission on 316 Water Street, NYC, where, despite welcoming all, the success rates of recovery seem diminished compared to the remarkable stories from the 1870s under Jerry McAuley’s leadership. As advertising takes precedence over genuine spiritual living, this book highlights both the triumphs and the challenges faced by those striving for sobriety in a changing world.
