arts, books, history, society, culture · EN

Join Edward Frederick Knight, an adventurous English barrister and amateur sailor, as he embarks on an exhilarating journey across the Atlantic in his 30-ton yacht, the Falcon. Over a fish dinner in Harwich, Knight and his crew of four (plus a cabin boy) set out to explore the wonders of South America. Despite warnings about the dangers they might face, including powerful storms and treacherous waters, they navigate the breathtaking landscapes of Bahia and Rio de Janeiro. Along the way, Knight shares his encounters with diverse cultures, thrilling sport hunting in lush jungles, and the political turmoil of the region, including revolutions and wars. While his views reflect the attitudes of his time, praising the lands beauty and the kindness of its people, this tale is a rich tapestry of adventure, personal reflection, and a glimpse into a bygone era of exploration.
