history, news, politics, religion, spirituality · EN

This podcast presents a poignant exploration of the first and only atomic bombings in history, featuring the official report published nearly 11 months after the catastrophic events. A team of military physicians and engineers, who accompanied the U.S. soldiers into the ravaged cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, provide a stark clinical account of the extensive devastation, staggering loss of life, and the ongoing suffering of survivors. Complementing this report is a gripping eyewitness account from a German Jesuit priest who survived the Hiroshima blast and assisted in rescue efforts. His vivid recollections stand in stark contrast to the detached tone of the report, offering listeners a deeper understanding of the human impact of this historic tragedy. This recording was completed on the 63rd anniversary of the bombings. (Summary by Dennis Sayers). This show includes AI-generated content.
