Commentary on the Apocalypse of the Blessed John

religion, spirituality, christianity, history · EN

Authored around 260 AD, this remarkable commentary stands as the earliest surviving interpretation of the Book of Revelation. Written by St. Victorinus of Pettau (d. 303), who thrived during the tumultuous period of the Roman persecutions under Emperor Diocletian, this work offers a unique lens on key passages through predominantly allegorical interpretations. Rather than covering every verse, Victorinus emphasizes major themes, particularly the anticipated Second Advent, and presents the Apocalypse as a series of interconnected subdivisions.
