The Bojarski Affair: A Journey Through Identity and Morality

tv, film, reviews · EN

In this episode, we dive into “The Bojarski Affair,” a poignant and psychologically rich film directed by Jean-Paul Salomé. We unpack the harrowing journey of Jan Bojarski, a Polish engineer who flees to France during the war and survives by forging identity papers — only to find himself trapped in a shadowy double life after the conflict ends. What begins as a historical crime thriller unfolds into something far deeper. Through layered performances and an almost documentary-like realism, the film explores identity, survival, and the moral compromises born from extreme circumstances. We discuss how Bojarski’s craft — creating false papers and counterfeit currency — becomes both an act of resistance and a reflection of his fractured sense of self. Beyond the suspense, The Bojarski Affair transforms into a powerful meditation on creativity as survival, the weight of personal choices, and the lasting psychological imprint of war.
