The Riddle of the Sands

fiction · EN

In this reading of The Riddle of the Sands, the quiet reaches of the North Sea are rendered as they were first discovered - not as a playground for idle yachtsmen, but as a theatre of consequence. What begins as a modest sailing holiday soon reveals itself to be a matter of grave import, where shifting shoals and lonely channels conceal designs of alarming significance. Presented in full and without embellishment, this podcast restores the tale to its proper element: wind, tide, vigilance, and resolve. The sands keep their secrets poorly for those who observe with care, and it is in such observation that both peril and duty are found.
