Discover the profound essence of the samurai in Bushido The Soul of Japan. This captivating exploration delves into the Way of the Warrior, a concept that captivated influential figures like US Presidents Theodore Roosevelt and John F. Kennedy, as well as Robert Baden-Powell, the founder of the Boy Scouts. The author unveils the seven virtues revered by the samurai—rectitude, courage, benevolence, politeness, sincerity, honor, and loyalty—while weaving in insights from Japans rich indigenous traditions, including Buddhism, Shintoism, and Confucianism. By drawing parallels and contrasts with the foundational thinkers of European and American civilization, from the Romans to the Greeks and Biblical times, the author reveals striking similarities between the samurais Bushido and the medieval chivalry ethos, echoing the spirit of ancient Greece as depicted in Homers Iliad.
