Against Celsus is a significant apologetic work by Origen of Alexandria, composed around 248 AD, that stands as a robust response to the criticisms posed by Celsus, a pagan philosopher notorious for his scathing attack on Christianity in his treatise The True Word. In this work, Celsus labels Christian doctrines as irrational and portrays Christians as uneducated, deluded, and unpatriotic. He accuses Jesus of using black magic for his miracles and of borrowing his teachings from Plato. Celsus warns that Christianity threatens to undermine traditional religious values and predicts that its rise will lead to the decline of conservative societal norms. This text not only defends the faith but also engages deeply with the philosophical debates of its time. - Summary by Wikipedia This show includes AI-generated content.
