Celebrated by Oscar Wilde and other notable contemporaries, Amy Levys debut novel unfolds the compelling journey of the four Lorimer sisters as they embark on the ambitious venture of starting their own photography business in the wake of their fathers death, which has plunged them into poverty. Set against the backdrop of late nineteenth-century urban life, the story explores the challenges and opportunities faced by the New Woman. Levy not only defied the conventions of her time as a female novelist but also brought a unique perspective as a member of an Anglo-Jewish family. - Summary by Jane Gough This show includes AI-generated content.
