Dive into the gripping narrative of Samuel Leech, a young sailor who served in both the Royal Navy and the United States Navy during the tumultuous War of 1812. Notably one of the few to chronicle his adventures, Leechs maritime journey began at the tender age of twelve. He bravely faced the cannon fire as a powder monkey during the fierce duel between H.M.S. Macedonian and U.S.S. United States. Captured and initially set for exchange, Leech took a daring leap for freedom when the Macedonian was brought into Newport, Rhode Island. Resuming his seafaring life with the US Navy, he found a stark contrast in treatment that he recounted with vivid detail. Join us as we explore his remarkable story of courage and resilience.
