Marrying of Ann Leete

comedy, news, politics, fiction · EN

Dive into a witty yet thought-provoking comedy set in 1799, centered around the Leete family, members of the British rural gentry. Mr. Carnaby Leete, a beleaguered politician, finds his career hanging by a thread and must secure his position by marrying off his youngest daughter, Ann, to the right suitor. Complicating matters, his only son has made a socially inferior match, while his eldest daughters once-promising marriage faces turmoil. This play artfully blends humor with symbolism, prompting audiences to ponder the implications of arranging a daughters marriage purely for political advantage. - Summary by Tchaikovsky
