Momento Mori: An Art History Podcast

arts, visual, true crime · EN

Behind every great work of art is a story, but not all of them are beautiful. Some are haunted by obsession. Some are tangled in crime. Some were created in depths of grief, mental illness, and terror. And some carry legends so strange, and so unsettling, that people still whisper about them years, decades, sometimes centuries later. Welcome to Momento Mori, an art history podcast. In each episode, we’ll explore the darker corners of art history: cursed paintings, objects heavy with ill-intent, strange hauntings and happenings, and all the horrors—real and imagined—that have shaped these works. From ghostly portraits, to disturbing symbolism, to the psychological demons lurking beneath layers of paint, we’ll uncover the stories that museums don’t always put on the gallery wall. So settle in, and welcome to the dark side of art history. Because sometimes the scary story isn’t in that A24 movie, it’s hanging in plain sight.
