Satans Diary is the final masterpiece of the renowned Russian author Leonid Andreyev, completed just days before his death in Finland in September 1919. Once one of Russias most celebrated writers, Andreyev tragically passed away in financial ruin, burdened by the disillusionment and heartbreak stemming from his countrys turmoil. In this captivating satire on human existence, Andreyev channels his profound despair through the character of Satan, who descends to Earth in the guise of an American millionaire in search of amusement and adventure. As he traverses Europe, he encounters a parade of false virtues, hypocrisy, and the merciless cruelty of humanity, only to find himself outsmarted, ridiculed, and stripped of his riches. This gripping narrative exposes the dark absurdities of life and the deceptive innocence of those who inhabit it. (Summary by Herman Bernstein, in the Preface) This show includes AI-generated content.
