Welcome to the class that will ruin your favorite history documentaries. If you signed up expecting a polite, sanitized tour of American exceptionalism, a silver platter of cheap political "hope," or a celebration of immaculate marble monuments, you are in the wrong room. You are better off dropping before the add/drop deadline. This course is not a bedtime story. It is a brutal, unsparing autopsy of the American social contract. Over the next two semesters, we are going to grab a shovel, dig up the foundation of the dirt we are standing on, and look at exactly how this empire engineered its staggering wealth through raw violence, geography, and political maneuvering that would make your grandmother look twice at you. We will trace the bloody transaction lines of American history—from the moments imperial powers traded stolen land like cheap property, to the religious delusions of Manifest Destiny that corporate lawyers and politicians used to weaponize the map.
