Faith of Our Fathers A Plain Exposition and Vindication of the Church Founded by Our Lord Jesus Christ is a compelling book published in 1876 by Archbishop James Gibbons. This influential work quickly became a best-selling manual for conversions in the United States, reaching its 111th printing by 1980. In the preface, Gibbons states, “The object of this little volume is to present in a plain and practical form an exposition and vindication of the principal tenets of the Catholic Church.” He focuses on elucidating the tenets that are often debated by Protestants, while also highlighting those that are commonly accepted. Gibbons aims to clarify the Catholic faith by referencing Scripture extensively and incorporating insights from the early Fathers, whose testimonies provide invaluable context and credibility to the faith of their times.
